Uh-oh. There's not much in Swingers to make it fantastically memorable. A few days after I saw it, I typed "Now that I've waited a few days to write this, I run the risk of not capturing everything." Now I've waited a few months, and I'm really hosed. I can't complain about any of the performances, but the movie felt a little too much like 54 or Last Days of Disco but without the nostalgia. The characters were only moderately interesting, and the story didn't go anywhere worth going. A late cameo by Heather Graham was certainly not enough to save it.
I found the DVD to be far less than dazzling. The movie is split into only twelve chapter stops, with one more for the credits. The "bonus materials" included only the trailer and some recommendations. The trailer looked washed out and it wasn't letterboxed. I wouldn't complain if it was the television cut, but it's billed as the theatrical trailer. The recommendations, for Grosse Pointe Blank, Highlander III, Supercop, and Tombstone, seem a little out of place. They didn't even bother to throw clips or trailers on there to perhaps explain why these movies would be so desirable to people watching Swingers.
