I'd never been a fan of George Clooney. Looking over his filmography now, I realize I've only ever seen him on "ER", a show that usually grosses me out before I get engrossed in the drama. Looking at him, I didn't understand what the big deal was. Watching Out of Sight, I finally started to respect him. He has a solid-but-friendly demeanor that puts you at ease, even when he's playing nervous. Jennifer Lopez projects a certain toughness, complete with no-nonsense aura. With a tiny variation of her mouth, she goes from serious to seductive, and her face works particularly well both ways.
Elmore Leonard has been the narrative genius behind some excellent movies recently. I chuckled when I saw the similarities across movie adaptations of his novels. In particular, Michael Keaton shows up here and in Jackie Brown as Ray Nicolet. Dennis Farina appears both here and in Get Shorty, though as very dissimilar characters. Of course, Out of Sight and Get Shorty have a lot of people in common behind the scenes, as well, although they don't have a similar feel.
