I have to say, this was a very entertaining movie. The science-fiction side of it, what with the aliens and all, was not treated as something really fantastical. It was left to stand on its own as just a new interpretation on the craziness that's already in the world. This is largely due to the stone-faced performances of Tommy Lee Jones and Rip Torn. I was also glad to see that Will Smith didn't go too far with his performance either, keeping the tone consistent. Strangely, I didn't notice the score at all, and I almost always take note of the composer. In this case, it's especially shocking because I failed to notice Danny Elfman's work, and his stuff usually shines brighter than the movie it's a part of!
PS: "Star Trek: The Next Generation" fans get the bonus of seeing Carel Struycken again, but not as Mr. Homn.
