Set in 1978, Donnie Brasco is not your average gangster flick. Johnny Depp plays an FBI man trapped between his family and his job. Depp does an outstanding job of "becoming" a part of the mafia. His mannerisms and inflections change noticeably as the film goes on. Al Pacino is excellent, and the part feels like it was written for him. If you're squeamish, pass on this one. There are a few scenes of violence that make the average fight scene look like a walk in the park. That's not to say that these are great fight scenes, just big-time violence. The characters and acting are superb, though, so if you can stomach it, definitely see it.
