The presence of Ben Stiller and Bill Pullman told me Zero Effect would be a funny movie. I couldn't have been more wrong. It was an excellent character study, but the pitch of the opening is dropped before the second act. I was bored almost to tears by the end. Although as a whodunnit, it's good stuff, I just didn't enjoy it.
Bill Pullman really gets inside the role of Daryl Zero. The eccentricity is on screen in force, giving us a taste of a real, but strange, person. Kim Dickens plays a similarly intriguing role, always keeping details just out of reach.
