As romantic comedies go, this one is very good. Billy Crystal's extremely rapid-fire speech, with it's almost disturbing fluidity, keeps the viewer tuned in. Meg Ryan is very good as the anchor for the jokes, playing the stuck-up bit very well. I particularly enjoyed the way the movie spent so much time in the past and took its time building to the end. It's not many movies that will spread the plot over more than a decade.
I went in with great expectations for the placement of Harry Connick Jr.'s treatments of the classics that sold so many copies of the soundtrack. The songs were all there, but none of them Connick performances, which baffled me.
