Murder by Death is a merciless skewering of mystery stories great and small. The Neil Simon plot moves quickly and is loaded with zingers. The cast is truly outstanding, with many of the primaries taking on roles of famous mystery serials. Truman Capote makes his only cinematic appearance in this movie, playing the orchestrater of the film's mayhem. Special kudos to Peter Sellers for his portrayal of a Chan-like detective, and to Alec Guinness for playing the blind and silly-named butler.
