I hesitated to echo the IMDB's categorization of Down By Law as a comedy. Holy mackerel is this thing unfunny! I registered one laugh before the forty-five-minute mark, and maybe three more after that. Roberto Benigni is pretty funny as Bob, but he's only a significant character after an incredibly tedious, forty-five-minute build-up. When I laughed, it tended to be a big laugh, in case you were wondering about the 2/5. At one point, the John Lurie character complains that his cellmate's charcoal marks are making time slow down. That's not just true for the folks in the cell.
