The empty framework. The key features at this point are the angled lift chain and the extra short level on the top instead of the bottom. Viewed: 1514 times.

One of the unexpected problems with the diagonal chain is the tendency for the balls at the bottom to get into a position where none of them get into position to be picked up. The pile will usually shift enough for a small number of balls to get on the chain, but it still backs up quite easily. Viewed: 1555 times.

The chain isn't the only unusual diagonal element. From this angle, it's easier to see the unusual positioning of the trampoline in the foreground which bounces into the magenta catch basket in back.
The red piece at the top is a toggle. Under typical circumstances it alternates the direction of the balls dropped onto it. The path in the foreground drops onto a track that feeds one of the loops, which is barely visible just to the right of the chain. The path toward the background drops onto the red pendulum. The left path of the pendulum leads to the trampoline. The right path comes down the ramp into the loop in the foreground. Viewed: 1501 times.

The loop on the left feeds a long straight section that drops onto another track leading down to the left. The shiny bit at the end of that is a xylophone bell which is struck when the ball drops through.
The loop on the right feeds a steeper right-to-left track that terminates with the adjustable ball trap. Viewed: 1543 times.

This angle shows the two loops most clearly. From here it's also possible to see the track under the catch basket passing between the up and down segments of the lift chain. *Viewed: 1632 times.
