Sorry!

This movie's page is incomplete. I hate to admit that I'd put a page on my site only to leave it as "under construction", but it's the easiest way for me to be reminded of the reviews left to write. In this case, I know pretty much what I want to say about this movie, but I have yet to actually type it all in. This message will no longer appear when the I consider the page to be complete. That doesn't mean it won't ever change after that, but you can bet that it's less likely.

Caper plus Drama

Neil Jordan's The Good Thief is a caper film with some unexpected dramatic elements. Like The Thomas Crown Affair, there's some art involved. Like Ocean's Eleven, , there's a casino involved. The centerpiece is a bit more interesting than George Clooney or Pierce Brosnan. It's Nick Nolte as an American drug addict living in France. Nolte has both the craggy looks and the gravelly voice for the part. As it picks up more and more characters, the plot becomes as interesting as Nolte's performance. The rocky romance between Paolo and Anne complicates the heist tremendously. There are also corrupt cops, shady art dealers, transgendered body-builders, overly-complex security systems and evil pimps. What more could you want?

Tchéky Karyo is on hand for yet another scenery-chewing, evil police official role. It would be more of a surprise if he couldn't keep up with this part. Ralph Fiennes has an uncredited performance
