Suspension of Improbability

Many things made Die Hard so memorable. It was the breakthrough performance of Bruce Willis, it had a fantastic villain in Alan Rickman, and a lot of it wasn't as improbable as other similar movies. I should probably retract that last statement. Anyway, I didn't find nearly as much implausibility in Die Hard 2 as I probably should have. I won't give it many points for imagination, but at least it's enjoyable.

Villains

The primary catalyst for any kind of suspense in a movie like this has to be the villain. Die Hard 2 fell apart a little bit on that point. While there was a cunning ruthlessness to the crew here, they didn't display any of the class or personality that Rickman did in the first. Too bad! At least the production values here were exquisite, especially the bird's-eye view of Bruce in the ejection seat. But then, I'd expect nothing less from Renny Harlin, who also directed Cliffhanger.
